Mark Jones to address Amnesty International
Date: Friday 13th January 2017
We are delighted to announce on 16th January 2017 Mark Jones will be addressing Amnesty International on the situation in Turkey in the aftermath of the coup, the purges undertaken by President Erdogan, who has suspended Turkey’s obligations pursuant to the European Convention, and the general instability arising from the renewed conflict with the PKK and the terrorist attacks orchestrated by the Islamic State.
Mark has been involved in human rights issues in Turkey and the wider region for over 10 years, acting as a rule of law/human rights consultant on projects organised by the Council of Europe, OSCE and the UN, and latterly as a trial observer in respect of the politically-motivated trials targeting lawyers, journalists and politicians who seek to uphold human rights in a climate of ever greater repression.
Mark is frequently instructed on international law human rights cases, together with human rights issues arising in his domestic practice, predominantly in areas of crime, prisoners’ rights, police actions, inquests, social housing/homelessness, immigration and extradition.
