Family Finance Group

St Ives Chambers' Family Finance Group are noted for their preparation, approachability and pragmatism. The strength of the Group lies in good relationships between team members and continuous in house training. The range of work undertaken and experience of members means that clients benefit not just from the experience of the individual barrister but from the collective knowledge and experience of the Group.

Several members of the Group are listed as Leading Juniors in the directories and a number now sit as Deputy High Court Judges, Recorders and Deputy District Judges.

Members of the Group advise and advocate in a broad range of cases, from cases involving complex and substantial financial provision to cases involving limited assets where a practical, cost effective solution is required.

The following areas of work are undertaken by members of the Family Finance Group:

  • Financial Provision on Divorce
  • Financial Provision on Dissolution of Civil Partnerships
  • Pre-Nuptial and Post-Nuptial Agreements
  • Financial Provision for Children
  • Financial Provision for Cohabitants
  • Divorce - Defended Petitions and Issues as to Jurisdiction
  • Inheritance Act Claims

At St Ives we recognize that Family Finance is a broad jurisdiction. We have a wealth of experience dealing with high net worth cases, those involving multi-million pound pensions, partnerships, companies, farms, offshore assets and trusts. We also recognize that cases involving modest resources can often present the most challenge and to that end we remain committed to ensuring appropriate representation is provided to publically funded clients.

At St Ives we appreciate that Family Finance Law continues to evolve and develop at a pace. In addition to our in house training and meetings to discuss important changes in law and practice we regularly arrange seminars in Birmingham and surrounding areas on a range of topics for Instructing Solicitors and other professionals. In order to foster good working relationships with professional clients we are happy to arrange bespoke in house training if required.

St Ives Chambers continues to evolve. In recent years the use of alternative dispute resolution and collaborative law has grown as parties pursue a speedier, less litigious route to securing a fair outcome. To meet this need St Ives Chambers has introduced Counsel Led Dispute Resolution to the Midlands facilitating an early resolution in suitable cases. With many of our number now sitting as Deputy High Court Judges, Recorders and Deputy District Judges we are able to bring considerable experience to resolve disputes via these "Private FDRs".
